I've done this twice and they came out beautiful, one was a gift this blue one is in my house.
This was made from my parents old bed. The headboard is the back, the foot board made the two sides and the bed slats were used as the seat.
To anyone reading this post, I want to caution you to use "bed" benches indoors only. Beds were never made to be used as outdoor furniture. You will be very sad when you bench starts to rot in a year maybe less if you put it outdoors. Most people, I know do not have room for a bed bench indoors. In addition to that, you may want to make sure you are not cutting up a valuable piece of furniture. I bought my son an "old bed" when he was transitioning out of his crib 30 years ago. Turns out it is an antique made out of solid mahogany wood. He is still using it in his own home today and is very proud of it. In today's furniture market most furniture is made out of partical board or pressed wood chips. Life expectancy for this furniture is "throw away". A lot of the old bed frames, I see people make these benches out of are solid wood. Seems a shame to me to cut up solid wood bed frames for crafts. Just saying.
This is just "my rant" and not intended to offend anyone. I have a fairly large house and I don't have room for a twin bed bench anywhere. Anyway, I still think it is a shame to cut up solid wood bed frames for the sake of crafts. When my son moved away, I hunted all over creation to find another solid wood twin bed frame to replace his with. It took a long time to find one and it cost me a pretty penny. I love antiques. I would go antique shopping everyday if I could. It just kills me to see people cut up these beautiful old beds. Especially since today's furniture is made to throw away. What is even worse (in my opinion) is when the beds people cut up, are inherited from loved ones. I have an old corner cupboard that my grandmother left me. To the average person it would look like an old rough piece of furniture. However, I know the history behind this piece and that it has been handed down thru the generations. I have left specific instructions in my will as to the next person to inherit it. That person will cherish it and not cut it up or paint it. Best Regards
