What we used to do "back in the day" (this would be the late sixties, early seventies) was to open the center seams on the inside of the legs as well as the seams for the back of the belt area Sew the inner seams together (in the front, not the back), seal up the loose edges and you should have a heavy duty half apron. If you want the upper part, get another set of jeans, cut off the legs to include the pockets, use strips from the legs for the ties. Look at one at the store, copy down the design, and have a great time. We did.
There are so many cute ideas for denim aprons. Plus denim is such a sturdy fabric and a great fabric to recycle into an apron.
