How can I use PVC pipes to make a variety of projects?

Does anyone remember the Home talk idea that was about pieces of PVC & cut into different sizes & some on angles & I think they painted them different colors & the part I can't remember is, what they stuffed in the bottom of these containers, if anything & they used them as planters like for succulant's or what ever for your outside garden area. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks for your help.....Madeline
