Sure it can. You could frame the mirror and than hang or you could hang the mirror and than the frame around it.
Shezzi, have you gotten it off the wall in your bathroom yet? I think it can absolutely be done if your'e able to get it off in one piece.
I've already done this, and I didn't frame it.(optional) I just used plastic u hooks to mount it. It sure makes my dining room look a little bigger.
There are many trims that are super lightweight - foam actually that you can paint and glue in place. When mounting be sure you hit a stud. There are stud finders (true) that will help you find the right spot.
This is a significant amount of weight so please be sure to get help lifting and anchoring.
