What is this strange box for ?

I recently found this in a thrift store. It was interesting but I don't know what it is for. It has a small hinge on the side so you can lock the case.
The box upright.

My first thought was some kind of case to hold guns. Not very secure though... Just seems like each peg would support part of something. Looks like it might have been made to fit a specific collection. Just a guess.

I don't know what it was made for, but you could use it to hold necklaces and bracelets.

My family call it the creepy case. They claim it's haunted and strange things are happening in the room it is kept in. lol I have not seen nor heard and strange happenings yet. I thought guns as well but the position of the pegs make no sense.

Might it be a warping board, that is, a tool to wind cord to serve as warp on a loom. Are the peg locations like this?

Susan-Amber Springer, it has two hooks on top so it can be hung on a wall. A glass door with a latch for a lock and the pegs should look like the photo I edited in the original post. I posted a pic of the box upright. Elizabeth it could be used for jewelry but I kind of think it would be a waste of an awesome display area. I am just hoping to find out what it may have been used for.

You may never know what it once held, but it's definitely a display box that could be used for other items if you remove the current knobs and replace the flannel. Nice find.

strange but it looks like a miniature "bumper pool" table. I'm thinking it's some home-made board game of some sort.....still thinking bumper pool =) (same felt and all)

I have seen display cabinets like this, they are usually custom made and often for heirloom weapons, guns, knives this actually looks like it may have had exactly that . I am surprised there is no glass on the front, usually they are covered with a glass door and are lockable. Maybe these weapons were not useable ?

Looks like a custom knife case it looks like the pegs that dont have a cap are shorter than the ones that do maybe to position it for a 3D look

Lee There is a glass over the front and space for a small lock. Thanks every one. Maybe it is a knife case.
