What can I do with my bedroom set?

We have an old bedroom set that is about 35 years old. I don't think it's solid wood, probably pressed. Can I paint it? It's in good condition. I hate to part with them.

If it has the shiny finish I would rough it up with sand paper so the paint will stick better. Depending on the style shabby chic could look really cute. Paint one coat rough it up a bit and paint a different color. Either wipe it off like stain with a rag or wait until it dries and use sand paper to make it look worn. Corners and areas that get worn need a bit more distressing.

I'd suggest sanding lightly to break the gloss and then priming with Zinser 123. Good luck!

Lightly sand, clean, prime with Zinser or Kilz, allow to dry, paint, allow to dry and seal with a non-yellowing polycrylic.

I'd suggest using chalkpaint - it will make the whole job easier!
