Paula, I would carefully look at this jewelry. Some may look like junk, but be worth more than ever thought possible. Then, ask a friend, that you can trust, for their opinion. Then, go to a store where cash is given to you, for used jewelry. Be careful, for I don't want you to loose money on this idea, ok? Their is always someone out there, who will buy gems from you, and only give you a few dollars, then they turn around and cell it for lots more. Be sure to have it appraised, and take pics of it. All for your protection, ok? Judy.

I can think of many things, and Hometalk and Pinterest have thousands of ideas, so let me throw something in the mix. After reading all the ideas, if you don't want to do a bunch of projects, try a couple to be sure, then consider giving the jewelry away. Goodwill, Salvation Army, and other thrift stores will accept the jewelry and give you a receipt for your taxes. Churches, Boys and Girls Clubs, after school programs, senior citizens groups, scout groups--many of these are glad to receive items that are costly for them to buy. Whatever you choose to do, best wishes!

Oh be still my DIY heart! Jewell had lots of good suggestions as did Judy. You can also check with pre schools or any Senior Day Care Centers. There's the always popular Jeweled Christmas Tree on Black Velvet or if you are at all crafty, you can use it to create your own "New" jewelry by learning how to make a bracelet or earrings! Have fun!

My friend made a gift for me using old jewelry that I just love. She put a velveteen cloth over a shadowbox insert. The she hot glued broaches, rings, and pendants in the shape of my initial. She had things that were special to me, like a breast cancer pin, but it would not require this. You could make it large or small, depending on what you have. It could be a musical clef, a flower, or any other shape if you don't want a letter. Note, it is very heavy and requires a sturdy hanger or stand.

Do you have any kids and grandkids? You could decorate a wooden box to look like a treasure chest and put the costume jewelry in there as something to play pretend with.
