What kind of counter top is best for kitchen island bar?

Im thinking of transforming a dresser into kitchen island with overhang for bar stools. I dont want it to be too top heavy, but want it heat, stain resistent. Help

Some people use a cutting board (they purchase at second hand store) but I covered ours with metal top so I could set pans on it too. Both are available at a local home improvement store.

We bought a heavy piece of wood at home depot and used L brackets and Liquid Nails. I stained it and sealer it.

I think a nice thick wood counter top that is sealed properly would look really nice. Good luck!

Keep in mind that heat and stain 'resistant' is not the same as heat and stain 'proof'. Al types of countertop surfaces have guidelines for usage, and require some maintenance.

The easiest to keep clean though, would be a solid surface countertop, as it does not have any seams. Solid surface material can also be shaped into any custom space without any joins or sharp edges.
