What should I do with an old milk can?

The milk can in its original form with a cover. It’s aluminum or steel- has some rust on it. The house is historical- dark bluish /gray paint and black shutters . Should I paint it or just try to get rust off? I don’t need another planter.

I have an old milk can that was not Rusty at the time that I painted black sandpaper and some areas with it and put water on it to let it rest and I have it sitting out by my yard with flowers around it and actually looks pretty nice maybe that's something you can think about
