I was offered this desk for free. Any ideas on what I could do with it?
Don't know if I should take it cause I really don't need a desk. Wondering if anyone has any ideas on to redo and use it some other way?

I could see this with a bronze metallic paint - check out this look, http://www.hometalk.com/diy/bedroom/dressers/how-to-remove-old-veneer-before-and-after-metallic-painted-dresser-9816426?se=fol_new-20150830-1&utm_medium=email&utm_source=fol_new&date=20150830

You could build a bottom and a shelf in the leg cubby and if you don't like the drawers on the right apply that treatment there. After you paint the whole thing you can use baskets to organize different things or hold small items.

I do lots of hobbies so I can visualize it painted in an ivory or other neutral color and use colorful containers to hold craft supplies. The desk area could be the work surface. The drawers could hold tools, supplies, etc. They could be painted the same neutral color or go wild. Whatever you do, it could look really cute. If you don't like the end result, you could always sell it on Craig's list.

What are your skills? Do you have access to power tools? If the top is removable it could be changed into toy and book storage for a young child by adding a bottom and a board across the front to toss toys into. The desk could be turned into a kitchen island by adding a cut piece of plywood as the base, trim it with solid wood trim (half round would work), and feet to bring it to correct height. Add bead board to the back of all the drawers, leaving the knee area open. With the solid side you should be able to add a shelf between the drawers on the right and the side making a great area for large item storage.

A couple of small modifications could turn it into a modified Hoosier for a kitchen. Or if you have pets it could make an excellent workstation/feeding station for them. The bottom opening would work really well for a litter box or large bags of food, etc. For the hoosier idea, a piece of tin cut to fit the top and cover the wood then remount the upper cabinet over it after painting.

Take the top off and you may use the bottom as a vanity table for a girl w/a color she likes. If you don't have a potting station the bottom could also be used for that or a wrapping station for gifts and gift giving supplies.

The original had a finial on it. I don't know why it is closed at the top. I'd open it and put a shelf in there. It would make a great addition to a kid's room, a family room, or the living room. It is a fairly new piece. Perhaps the top piece is just a front and not fully rounded. Could be from a suite from a bedroom of children's furniture. I sold furniture many years ago.

I'd create a bar with it. Wallpaper the back of the shelves area, paint it all with a nice pop of color, fill the shelves with glassware and booze, snacks and napkins in the drawers or turn some drawer space into more shelving For the chair "hole", if big enough, add a mini fridge. Otherwise make a wine rack there. PARTY!!!

Just saw this posted and thought I'd share a link for you to see, as I suggested above, to turn the desk into a kitchen island. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/home-office/furniture/from-this-to-that-an-old-desk-gets-a-new-life-as-a-kitchen-island-9876782 And here's a hutch turned into a bookcase, though not with the toy storage at the bottom as I suggested. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/living-room/furniture/revamped-bookcase-hutch-1671626 The picture below shows the toy storage idea.
