What to do with the lid of an old trunk?

by Hb
I have a decorative lid from an old round top trunk ( has fancy work on it ). I am wondering how I could use this in order to see the lovely decorations on the trunk lid ( I am guessing I would need to use the trunk lid upside down so the hump part is at the bottom in order to effectively see the raised decoration of it ). How can I use this?

Perhaps you could have a piece of glass or clear perspex cut to fit the trunk lid and use it as a side table or you could hang it on a wall as a statement piece?

If you have a pet, turn it upside down and add feet. Put a pillow in the top, making it into a glam pet bed. Or put feet on it making it into a blanket and pillow holder.

Thanks for the idea Tris but the fancy designed embossed metal is on the top side of the trunk lid. If I turn it upside down I wont get to see any of the fancy work on the lid.

Addition to Michelle Leslie post. Build a base smaller than the trunk lid. Paint it any color, place the truck lid upside down on it, and add a glass or plexiglass top for a unique cocktail table.

I have seen legs added inside and glass cut for top for table.

How about making it into a shelf for plants etc. You could put a plank at the bottom large enough to put things on and hang it on the wall. It should like it would be beautiful and you could still see the design. Sort of like this picture. Or maybe make it the top of a chalkboard on the wall. I like the idea of the table, but with the rounded top not sure how that would work. Good Luck.

hi DJ thanks for the idea however Thanks for the idea but the fancy designed embossed metal is on the top(outside )side of the trunk lid. If I turn it against the wall to make a shelf , I wont get to see any of the fancy work on the lid.

    Hello Hb -

I know you posted this question years ago. I just found it and immediately thought that seeing as how you want to see the top of the trunk due to the ornate decor; have you thought about having it mounted on a wall that has no other decor around it? That way the trunk lid would be the main focus of the wall. ??

If you figured out something to do with the trunk lid then nevermind. I can see how that would be a cool feature that you would want to show.

    Take care -

If you have a covered area outside that would look good hung there. MIght be a good idea to seal the sign first most areas are fairly damp in the winter.
