You might want to check out craigslist or your local Habitat for Humanity store if you have one. Reclaimed wood is a hot commodity now and it's getting harder to find for an inexpensive price but sometimes you can find it on craigslist for a very reasonable price.
Check behind grocery stores, strip malls. Freecycle.org, Craig's list, nextdoor.com are all great places to look. Many retailers receive goods on pallets, this site will teach you which ones are safe to use.

Visit local markets, box stores and ask if you can take them...most in frenzy they will gladly let you haul them off
Lowes for free.
Many places give away pallets just haul them off after getting permission.
drive behind a box store, my choice is 'At Home', it's a 1/4 mile from my house, and I get all I need. Old fences are the best for decor, pallets for structure
Check with any of your local retail stores, the bigger stores always receive a lot of their items on skids. Do you have a Menards, Home Depot or Lowes store near you? A perfect place to start, not sure if you can get them free or for a small fee.
I'm not sure where that store is located.
Great!!! Thanks.
remember most pallets ant lowes and home depot are not fro grabs.check craigs list ,lumber yards, stone warehouses.
Not sure where you are, we are near Baltimore, MD and there are places where they have nothing but skids, all stacked up and fenced in.
Otherwise, they are all over the place, wherever stores do not want their merchandise sitting on the ground.
Automotive stores have these laying around, BJ's, Walmart, Sam's Club have lots of these too.
