Sewing Cabinet Turned Cooler.
We have done a few projects using old sewing machines, but the one problem is they are heavier on one side than the other and they tend tip over if any weight is on the one side. So we fixed that problem by adding a swing out leg to help balance both sides.
Here is the prototype. This is a table we have on our back porch. Walking by one day it hit me, hey, I can use that on the sewing machine cooler.
We cut two 1 x 2’s to the appropriate height of the table and two more boards. We then used our Kreg Jig to drill pocket holes to connect them.
Here it is all together and up against the table.
And, here it is holding up the fold out top.
The black rectangle on the left is the top of the leg that the fold out will rest on. The 2nd black rectangle is a piece of felt pad to go on top of the leg so as not to scratch the top. I sure hope this makes sense!
We spray painted some gold hinges we had laying around to match the black paint.
This is the exterior sealer we used on the entire piece.
When you open the lid, we put a hook for the pan to hang from when not in use.
Here it is all closed up. We distressed it also to match the whole vibe of the piece.
Fill it with ice and drinks and you have a stylish cooler. And there is that glorious leg that balances everything out! We were so happy with the way this turned out!

Im going to use your idea just to support the top when my cabinet is open. It sags quite a bit!

I love this! I would use this for sure. I would think a cutting board option to fill the hole for other types of parties would be neat too.
