What do you do when your drawer pulls and knobs on your media wall cabinets don't match??

This is the media wall that Mr. Redoux built for our living room.

Isn't it amazing??!

But when it came to getting the hardware, I had to get handles for the drawers that projected out far enough for us to get our hands in them to open the drawers so my options were pretty limited.

This is what I ended up with.

They’re more traditional than I wanted in our living room but, hey, what good are the other ones if you can’t actually pull the drawer out with them, right??

They’re the same handles we have on our closet doors in the guest room (without the backplate) and I love them in there!

But they didn't match the knobs I had gotten for the living room...

Plus they were too shiny...

Hmmmm...

Not quite right...

So, what to do??

Well, paint them of course!

I love the finish on the knobs so I set out to match it on the drawer pulls

I started by scuffing up the finish on the drawer pulls.

I just used a Scotch pad and rubbed lightly over the whole thing, then wiped the dust off.

Next, I dabbed on some brown flat oil-based paint

If you look at the knob, you can see there are some warm brown tones in it so that's what I was going for.

I used oil-based paint because I don’t want it to rub off with use. I made sure the paint finish was flat so it wouldn’t be shiny.

Quick Tip: if you only have semi-gloss or glossy oil-based paint, you can flatten it by adding cornstarch to it.

Next I mixed up some gray and black to match the gray tones on the knobs.

I used a small disposable stencil brush to dip into the paint

Then I off-loaded most of it onto a paper towel,

Then I dabbed it lightly onto the drawer pull, leaving some of the brown to show through

And there you have it…

A quick easy fix…

Very nice tip. Most just spray paint one color depending on the look they want. This is a great option for matching different knobs and pulls. Good share
