For anyone who secretly cringes when they see solid wood being painted... This makeover is for you! Come see how we give a new life to this vintage solid cedar door...
"Before" photo of the outside of the door

Our Game Plan:
  1. Clean door
  2. Chemical strip door
  3. Sand door add trim pieces to fit our door frame
  4. Stain and seal with Exterior Varnish
"Before" photo of the inside of the door

We applied a nice heavy coat of Dad Easy Spray Remover and then let it do its work for about 15-20mins... any areas that dried out I applied a bit more stripper to the surface.
This was probably the easiest stripping job I've done!
Now time to sand... We used a belt sander and hand sanded the groves.
Now time for staining! I choose Saman Canadian Maple... because it's a cedar door and wanted to still have the look of cedar but with a bit more of a darker brown hue.

When HVLP Spraying Saman Wood Stains I dilute with 1-2 parts water to 1 part stain.
Here's a view from our spray booth applying the Saman Canadian Maple Wood Stain and Saman Exterior Semi Gloss Varnish.

I stained both sides with stain and then applied 2 coats of varnish, lightly sanded with 600 grit sanding pad, applied another coat sanded then finished with the 4th coat of Varnish on *both sides*

Here's the after photo of the door hung on our shop.
Here's the view from inside our shop.

*sorry bad lighting the stain colour looks much darker in this photo*
I hope you enjoyed seeing the transformation icon
