How do I frost and letter the glass on an old door with clear glass?

We found an old, heavy door with glass on the top from an old office building that we will be using between our large back entry - mudroom and our kitchen/living area. There are spray paints and films that are sold for frosting glass, and also frosted window decals that can be custom made. Any recommendations for what to use or not use?

You can frost using contact paper or frosting spray paint, and then do letters with decals.

Hello Roberta, I might do something that was a little less permanent so that I could change it easily. I found a video where lady uses plastic lenses. If you wanted a design, on the glass, you could then paint the lens or add a stencil to it.

I understand. I have a front door with a long skinny piece of glass. I put several layers of dark limo car tint on it, so nobody could just walk up and peep inside. I think I'm going to put this on my door. It would look a lot better.

    Hi Roberta,

If you can get a decal that will fit the glass and have the words that you want on it, that would be the easiest way. Other wise, you can use removable stick-on letters for your wording then use the spray. Be sure to do that outside because the frosted spray paint is highly toxic. Wishing you success! - Linda

Thank you! I'm thinking the decal (removal) is a good idea too, not permanent until I know what looks best.
