How to find custom 94" interior office doors

Rob
by Rob

I am trying to find affordable interior doors to put up for our home office. Measurements are height 94" and width 47" wide. Would like white doors, maybe with some glass, but would prefer not to pay over $700 is this possible? Any ideas where the best places are to look? Any other ideas of types of doors? I also looked at modern looking swinging doors, but couldn't find any tall enough. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried any architectural salvage places? You might luck out and find antique doors that size.

Hi Rob, Many home improvement stores have a huge variety of doors but you may have to check out their online sites as they tend to have more variety than in the physical locations now.

They would have to be custom made which makes them costly. You can frame the opening to fit standard size doors. Basically it's the height that's a problem. Or you can build your own doors to fit.

Lowes or Home depot, but custom sizes can be $$$.

If you are into carpentry, you can modify existing doors that are not exactly the correct dimensions. Sides can be trimmed to fit and bottoms can be cut down or lengthened to the correct height. Custom orders from a big box store will be about $300 each, likely more, depending on what extras you include. You will probably have to wait a few months to get them.

I would think that barn doors or french doors would work. And you should be able to adjust the size with a saw. You will probably need to make them fit via some minor wood work. I believe Wayfair has a 96 inch barn door if you want one premade. Depending on the construction of the doors you might be able to customize the fit by cutting 2 inches off.

It is probably a long shot, maybe try Craig's list, never know what you will find there.

Don't know if you have considered an accordion door, available at Home Depot, they have them in adjustable sizes +/- 94"

If possible another idea is to install a header and drop the height requirement a few inches.

You could add to the top or bottom to give you the height you need. Paint or stain to match the door.

Check with Southeastern Salvage if you have it in your area. Also, other salvage places.

Are you set keeping the height at 94"? If not, you could add an overhead decorative panel like a stained glass window then get normal height doors.

Build a fixed transom to be screwed in at the top "gap".

Buy a pair of 24" French doors and rip down the hinge side by 1/2" to make your 47" wide opening. A chisel will work fine for resetting the hinge butts.

  • Do you know any carpenters that may want to build these for you, such as a friend or friend of a friend? Some of them like to do side jobs for a little extra money.
