Hi everyone!! I want to share with you all how you can save your painters tape! This is an easy way to paint the inside edge of a mirror or window!

I was working on a large bookcase where the windows were MASSIVE. I needed a way to be able to use gel stain on the inside edges of the glass window that did not require painters tape. Applying painters tape to this large area would take a very long time.

Thankfully I was able to find a solution!

Here is a before photo of the edge of the large glass window. It can be challenging to stain the inside edge. Typically you need to use painters tape and tape the entire edge before you apply stain or paint.

I was blessed by finding a potato chip bag that one of our children had left on our garage floor! It was the perfect solution to not having to use painters tape!

Line Potato Chip Bag Next to Edge

Place the potato chip bag as close to the edge of the wood of your mirror or window that you are working on.

Begin to Apply Gel Stain

With your foam brush apply the gel stain to the inside edge of your window or glass mirror. Move the potato chip bag up and down as you go being sure to have an even coat of gel stain on the inside edge.

What is awesome about the potato chip bag is that it does not get soggy like a piece of paper!

Apply a topcoat

After you have applied the gel stain to the inside edges of your window you are ready for a top coat. I used General Finishes Gel Stain Top Coat. It is a shiny finish designed for gel stain. :)

Above is a photo of the completed large window!

I love General Finishes. You did a good job of staining the inside of the glass and had the pain staking task of eating those chips. LOL
