How do I hang a valance over existing vertical blinds??
My vertical blinds extend about 6" from the wall, and while I want to keep the blinds for privacy, I want to soften the look. I'd like to add a valance across the top, but can't find wrap around curtain rods that extend past about 4", and I need at least 7" to have adequate clearance. Anyone have any ideas? I'd rather not make a cornice, but of course that's an option. Help!

Hi Cindy, you could soften the look by adding a curtain rod that extends another 1" from the wall than the blinds and add a nice valance onto the rod. The rod could be made of conduit or even PVC pipe painted to go with your decor.
I've also seen cornices created from materials other than wood that are much lighter in weight and also imuch less expensive.

What if you go a bit higher, maybe 2" above the existing. Then use a valance curtain that is very gathered so that it hide the additional depth of the blinds below.
Maybe you could nail a wood block to give you the 3" you need to project from the window for clearance of the blinds. Paint the wood block a color matching the area above the vertical blinds and then attach your 4" curtain rod.
How about using shelf brackets to hold the rod away from the wall.
