I would check out places like Menards, Penney's, Lowes, WalMart, etc for thermal curtains that may be on sale or clearance. If you buy the longest length--84 inches--perhaps you can cut and sew enough panels to fit all your windows. You can also purchase temporary blinds just for summer. They run about 3 to 4 dollars each. Making curtains is not necessarily less expensive than finding some on sale.
I think you can already put a white trimming on the back of your existing curtains with sheets. But the real solution is that you should avoid that the sun is "touching" the glass of your windows. Maybe your solution is to built a overhang of some sort. It will already help if you put parasols outside to throw shade. Or simply hang shutters and close them when the sun is on the windows. Here in the south of France it is common.
I purchased room darkening curtains and solar (wood) blinds. cheaper way is use tin foil and duct tape
We live in Phoenix, AZ.... so heat is a real issue here..... to help keep the heat out.... keep the sun off of the glass to start with... When we bought our current house... we made the investment ($550) to put up Sun Screens on the outside of all of the windows ... (our house is primarily east/west) they have really made a huge difference over the years. We had ours made by a Sun Screen specialty company.... but you can make your own.... a simple 1 X 2 wood frame and staple Sun Screen material (most home improvement stores... screen dept) or Shade Cloth (garden dept) onto the frames.... ours have a turn latch so they can be removed for repair (none needed yet) or to wash the windows.
