I recently moved back home to care for my elderly Mom. She has a kitchenette with 8 full sized windows and the same curtains and mini blinds since I can remember! My Mom loves to sit I. That room, at the kitchen table and watch the birds We eat all our meals there and really utilize this room! I don't sew but really need to do something with the awful curtains and blinds. Really needing suggestions! Thanks in advance

  • Maybe replace them with roman blinds? They can be up during the day, and down at night for privacy.

First of all, your mom is lucky to have you. They make a product called Stitch witchery that you can hem with that is iron on since you don't sew. If you use a tablecloth, flat sheets or even a runner you will have some hems already done. There are also clips you can attach a curtain to a rod with. You can eliminate the blinds, replace them or put up a shade if you need privacy. Maybe you can leave them off and just close the curtains at night? I don't know how the windows are situated, but, flat sheets in a pretty print or color should have a hem you can thread a rod through and you can either leave as is, or shorten them and use the iron on tape.

Sure! I used quilt batting in the past for insulation in curtains, but, had to stitch it into the fabric sandwich. Nothing fancy, just a running stitch top to bottom and through the middle. I've also hung fleece on tension rods behind curtains. Quilts are a good suggestion, too.
