I have very large windows downstairs but love the light, airy feel it provides. I need some type of window coverage and cant choose between plantation shutters /curtains/blinds. Also, do I have to do the same for all windows upstairs? room by room? Help!

Why do you have to choose, especially for the downstairs windows? Nothing says light and airy like white sheers. And sheers can go inside the window frame on little rods. They can go on normal rods on hooks, just outside of the window frames. Or they can go on rods with the L at the ends, even outside the plantation shutters. You can make it work. Yes, you need to have the shutters on all the front windows, or none. I'll bet your house will be beautiful, just with your own instincts. Best wishes 😇

Thank you Jewell! I will post pics nest time so you can see. its hard giving up those large oipen glass windows but the neighbors can see everything and night time is spooky with that much exposure.

You can wash curtains or take to cleaners. You have to DUST shutters.

I don't think you need to do the same downstairs and upstairs but it's a matter of choice. I like sheers for the living room as they allow the most light to come in. You can choose a pretty rod to hang them from all the way from almost the celiing to the floor for a very modern look. By the way, there are sheers with texture and they also come in different colors.

Always remember what your windows look like from the outside.

plantation shutters are beautiful. You can mix and match for an eclectic feel that describes you.

It sounds like you need plain old blinds. Instead of opening the blinds by turning the blades down, open them the opposite way, with the blades up. People can't see in, and you can let in as much sunshine as you can find. Love to see the photos. 😇

  • My vote is for billowy and sheer curtains, just pop in the wash when necessary than always having to dust the plantation shutters. Don't get me wrong, I love the shutters, but with a house full of pets, I want easy to clean furnishings. If you have someone to dust for you then either will look beautiful. I always look at things from a cleaning point of view.
