What is a Cheap way to create privacy from the outside for door window

I have a cat that has learned to hit a 'bell on a cord' hanging from the door knob to let me know he would like to go o/side. At night when I do not want him to go, it is a difficult time of saying 'no' each time he approaches the door before he gives up...and I am worn out. The lesson does not take. When I am not around he 'scratches' back the curtains. Yes. They are not in good shape now. I do not want to use chemicals so thought I should go for something outside that he can not 'claw'.
Ideas for stopping his determined attention to the door at night or when I say no....or for not having a destructable curtain on the inside?

You could frost the glass to give you privacy and a window covering that will be harder for your kitty to ruin with his claws. You can use stickers or paint to get the job done.

I used a plastic window cling on mine. It looks like frosted beveled glass. And it’s easy with water and the squeegee which is included. Check discount stores like Big Lots.

Why not put in a cat door so kitty can come and go?
