How do you not ruin the wood around the window that is in your shower?

  • Good question, Sharon. I've never understood why designers place a window in the shower. We had one in the house I grew up in and my mom put a plastic shower curtain around it. I remember my dad periodically having to repaint though. Another idea is replace it with a vinyl window and trim it with something non-porous. If it were mine, I'd take it out and replace it with glass blocks with plenty of silicone sealer. Good luck!

Hi Sharon! At home improvement stores there is a clear finish that is fairly new on the market. It actually repels water and is a clear spray or paint on product. The water actually beads up on the surface after it has been applied and let dry. I saw it demonstrated at Home Depot a couple of years ago when it first came out and they were showing that it could even be sprayed onto work boots to repel water. Awesome product, but I don't remember the name of it....ask at the paint dept.

NeverWet should work it is a 2 part application that can be used in the glass also. You can get it in the big box hardware stores

What do you mean that it can be "be used in the glass". Would I coat the wood frame and the exposed glass?

Sure you can do the entire window then the water will just bead off the frame and glass

Thank you. This has always been a problem and we solved it with hanging another shower curtain over the window but it cuts the light and makes it impossible to open the window for venting.
