We are in the process of painting the trim in our home and here is a before and after, or more like a before and during, of our living room.
The wall color is Valspar "Stillness" and the trim color is Valspar "Bistro White". We primed the trim with Zinsser Cover Stain. The trim and floors are original to the 1937 house. I do like dark trim, but ours had a lot of wear, abuse, and paint splatters. The chandelier is a $5 garage sale find.
I cannot believe how much the white trim and calm, light blue transform the room. It is like being in someone else's home. Thanks for reading!
You know those rooms that get done-ish, but never quite finished? Meet our kids’ room. A few months ago we finished it and created a simple shared kids room that is neutral but still colorful.
Since we are selling our home, the goal here was not to create an awesome room reveal (sorry, folks), but to:
-make this room look big (it is 11′x10′)...
As a work-at-home blogger and mom of three kids, I needed a space to call my own! I took our rarely used, dark, and outdated living room and turned it into a bright and happy Mom Cave. The yellow, blue, and gray accents are calming yet energizing and it's great to have a fun space to call my own.
We started our kitchen renovation 4.5 years ago. We saved money by working on projects by reusing what we could, doing everything ourselves, and renovating when we could afford it (or found sales). A kitchen renovation doesn't have to be a big gut and replace job!
See more "in progress" pictures and tips for affording a kitchen renovation in the post.
We've been living cable free since June 2009 and don't miss it one bit! Here are some tips on how to ditch your cable, take advantage of free HD channels, and try out streaming, internet tv services.
We first started work on our family room six years ago and saved money by changing it over time. We removed fake wood paneling and ceiling tiles, added a sliding glass door, replaced the carpet with wood, added a breakfast bar, and added little touches to make it ours. Most of the furniture and accessories are secondhand.
The result is a light and bright family room that looks like a family lives in it, which I think is a win.
My favorite holiday tradition is being home. Gathering around the dinner table, entertaining, and lingering a little bit longer than normal. We moved into our home less than a month ago and this dining room/kitchen is what sold us on the house!
But when we moved in, the space seemed dark, lacked seating, and didn't have enough storage. This needed to be fixed before the holidays! We painted and added in pieces that solved our issues and made this the perfect dining room for entertaining.

Every year I challenge myself to tackle and declutter my whole house for forty days.
I take it slow and a day/spot at a time, and try to get a bag a day.
I would love to have you join me! I've set up free calendars printables to plan and chart progress, a closed facebook group for support, plus more on Instagram and on the blog.
