My girls, however are not complaining at the daily newness around the house. They were even the recipients of a decked out playroom door an hallway. I started to realize early on, why should adults only enjoy the decorations. The truth is that the decorations excite my girls 10x's over me. I decided to give them a fun, colorful playroom entry that would make them smile every time the went in. I'd like to say it actually makes them smile EVERY TIME but nonetheless, I know the do love it.
I made a Give Thanks sign for the mantel which I love, love, love. From the same pallet, there was enough leftover wood for additional signs. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a sign for the holidays. I dressed it up with some garland and an ornament.
There was a moment when I looked at my original stripes and almost cried. I was so devastated that the vision in my head wasn't translating. I looked at the stripes and could only think boys room or college locker room. With the support & encouragement of my husband...I kept plugging away. He suggested adding varying stripes. I did this until I finally found a pattern that looked less collegiate. I love that the stripes aren't in a perfect pattern. I think that's what takes it from a boys sports room to a modern bathroom.
I went to a couple of thrift stores and couldn't find an empty frame quite big enough so ended up going to an antique store where there were a ton to choose from. I've hung the drying rack in my kitchen since it's a pretty dry area and some sun gets in. I love the look and how interchangeable the rack is.
I finally decided to make my own diffuser. I had most of the materials from another diffuser kit I never used. I wasn't too happy with the smell it came with so figured it was a perfect time to give it a go. I will NEVER buy an expensive diffuser kit again.
The first was redoing a chair that's been in my family. It's not something I would have bought but it's a decent piece I wanted to use as an accessory to the room. Instead of buying fabric to recover it, I broke out my doilie pillow covers from the consignment shop I talked about a couple of weeks ago and made use of the fabric (mypinterestreality.com/2012/05/diy-doily-transfer-tee).
Since I'm staying at home, buying new cabinets and sinks is out of the question. We were dealing with white counter tops, taupe sinks and white tile with grey streaks. Knowing I needed to keep the taupe sinks and tile, I found a dark grey from Behr that complimented the sinks and tile.
This color would be the color of the cabinets and an accent stripe on the wall. I was nervous about painting the cabinets but let me tell you...it was so easy.
I'm itching to redo all of them in the house.
