Someone in our neighbourhood had replaced their wooden balcony railing with glass panels and I just loved how much better it looked. After speaking to them and finding out they spent $5000 I thought there’s no way I’ll ever spend that on railing! So I decided to research and find out if I could DIY it myself. Being a single mom with a full-time job I was skeptical. But I did it…and for less than $1000!
I’ve been searching for a storage solution for our entryway. It had to be shallow enough that it wouldn’t be obtrusive and block the stairs or make the space feel even more cramped than it already was. I found this cute little antique maple secretaries desk at “Lisa’s Upscale Garage Sale” for $65 and it was pretty close to being the perfect size! But it has some issues and was not very attractive! So this is how I transformed it into a cute little storage cabinet just in time for the scarves & mittens & hats (Oh my) season!
My deck has been neglected since we moved in 4 years ago. And because our dining room window faces into the privacy fencing for the hot tub, I just couldn’t stand the thought of looking at it for another winter! So I decided to do a quick and inexpensive update before the winter hits. I bought a can of paint and ‘shopped’ in our garage for cast off items.
I was given a beautiful solid wood side-board from my mom when she sold her house. I loved everything about it, everything except the big water stain in the top corner! It had been caused by a cold drink on a hot day. And the stain had been there for as long as I can remember.I didn’t want to paint it because I really loved the chestnut finish. And the rest was in perfect condition. And I don’t have much experience was re-staining and my previous attempts had not been hugely successful. So I decided to try my best to remove the stain…
After a couple of months sleeping on a mattress on the floor, I was desperate for a bed-frame! I was limited by budget, as well as distance. I finally found a frame that met both these criteria…but is was particleboard!! And didn’t match my other bedroom furniture. But I really liked the headboard (and the idea of finally sleeping in a big girl bed again) so after some deliberation – I decided why not?! So I brought it home and spent the next 4 days working on it…and this is how it went.
