Enlarging my patio

by Jim McGovern
My patio outside my screenroom was small (10x10') and I wanted to make more room for furniture and cooking out. I started by digging a two foot area on the edge of the existing patio. I then mixed bags of concrete and pored it to the level of my existing patio. Since I was mixing two bags at a time in a wheelbarrow. I used wood to limit the flow of the concrete with needed. I then repeated the process untill I went around the patio. I also made an area next to the house to store my grill. After completing the extension I layed stones in a patern over the entire area. Needless to say I was very happy with the results.
After the form was made I mixed and poured two bages of concrete at a time.
Same process.
My grill storage area.
My Sheltie Prissy modeling my completed patio. After the two foot area was completed I dug an area around the edge and filled it with a fairly wet concrete mixture. I then submerged trim stones to help hold the patio stones in place.
This photo of Misty is inside our screenroom that created the need to enlarge the patio.
