Light up a Cozy Fall Fireplace With an Illuminated Cabin Resort Sign

One of my dreams is to one day have a cabin on the lake.
Since I'm still waiting (for my big lottery win) for that to transpire, I decided to pretend I lived in one full time... with a cute old cabin themed sign! With a twist...
This sign shares a special secret... see that window? It illuminates!
Because every fall needs a crackling fireplaced cabin, buried deep in the woods by a colourful palette of beautiful fall leaves...
How did I do? :)

This little Cabin Resort sign is influence by my love of all things rustic, cabin, fireplaces, and the beautiful fall season.

But what steals the show is how the window illuminates, with the help of mini white Christmas lights strung behind it. So cute in the evenings.
This fall project, along with many other bloggers joining in, was created for Hometalk. Make sure to visit the blog url at the end to see all the rest, or visit on Hometalk to see them in one large scroll!
So... let's make a sign!

Rather than just a square shape, I decided my Cabin Resort needed a cabin shape to further the theme.

The blank space above the text is where I dreamed of a cut out illuminated window. But would it work?
Using reclaimed fence wood, the template came together fairly quickly. The boards were cut to the desired shape, then screwed together.

Little shutters from wood scraps helped bring the window to life.
An easy way to create window panes is to use twine!
Signs are fun to make! But I will admit, made even easier if you use stencils. Apply very little paint in a tapping motion, and you are done!

Well how cute is that?

While I couldn't wait to get it up on my fall mantel... it would be equally adorable for Christmas. Maybe even in the entry with hooks... hmm....
An old trunk on castors got a little sprinkling of fall, so the fireplace wasn't too lonely...
And my little dreamy cabin on the lake during fall was complete!

Now to find a lake... :)
