Holiday DIY: Miniature Christmas Trees
In this post I will show you how to take this simple Styrofoam cone and make a cute little Christmas tree that takes only about a half an hour and around $5.00 to make! These little trees could add to any centerpiece on your dining table, hallway table, or anywhere else in your home that you want to add a little holiday pizzazz to!
The first step is to get your Styrofoam cone shape. They carry them in most every craft store and craft department. I found mine at the dollar store so that was a bonus. The size you choose will depend on how big you want your finished tree to be. TIP: Remember that your finished tree will be several inches bigger all the way around by the time you add everything onto it.
Gather your garland and miniature ornaments that you will use in this project. TIP: Make sure your garland has wire inside of it. 2nd TIP: You can also use small bows or flowers to decorate your tree instead of or in addition to the small ornaments.
Starting at the bottom of your cone cut a piece of your garland that is just slightly bigger around than the circumference of the cone. Wrap it around and twist two of the ends to hold it in place. You will continue doing this and work your way to the top of the cone until it's covered.
Go through now and fan out your garland ends just like you do on a big artificial tree to shape it the way you want it and to fill in any gaps. If you still have some small gaps where you can see the cone beneath, simply cut small pieces of garland and fit them in these areas to fill the spaces.
Decorate your finished tree with anything you would like. I used some miniature ornaments I had lying around some very small tinsel pieces along with a pretty bow as a topper. TIP: Everything about this is miniature so if you have little ones in your house be sure and place it where they can't reach it and get a hold of the small ornaments and possibly choke
