Felt Santa Tree Topper

Create a super cute felt tree topper in minutes, for cheap! Fast and easy
So our blinky color change-y tacky looking clear plastic angel that my sweetheart picked up only lasted a year in his eyes. Whew, good! What to do instead? I saw a flyer with these adorable felt tree toppers, ran right out to get one but lo and behold, none in stock. Sad face.
Why not make my own? I have all the stuff. Silly me. So I did make one. Happy face! And made it up as I went along based on the photo as I never saw one in person.
Start with a toilet paper tube or paper towel tube, slide on some donuts made of cardboard. Tack those with hot glue.
Wrap, trim, wrap the tube in felt, dabbing hot glue on the edges of the cardboard donuts to hold the felt. Make the top a bit cone-ish. I added popsicle sticks inside to help hold everything up. Yup, hot glue again.
Fold a piece of felt in half, trim a triangle then either stitch it or hot glue it together to make his hat. I added a white pom pom on the end and a 5/16" nut inside to keep the hat bent.
Glue hat to body. Start worrying you've made a creepy weird elf trapped in a sleeping bag.
Cut a half round shape of felt for his face, glue that puppy on.
Then with pom poms, make his eyes and nose. With either white felt or something more floofy extravagant, trim a strip to ring his hat and larger piece for his beard.
With black satin ribbon, I made his belt. With some wired mini gold tinsel I had around, I fashioned his buckle. He's not perfect but he's darn cute and close enough to the original!
There he is, all adorable, basking in the sun atop his new high perch. Even the hubs liked him!
