Checkerboard Floors

All of the rooms in our house have great, old hardwood floors. So when we first walked into the laundry room to find that the floor had been painted over and then scratched heavily by a dog of the previous owner we knew there was only one solution - paint it!!
We were inspired by an old restaurant in Talladega to go with very large checkerboards. We hope you enjoy the transformation! Each cherkbaord is 3ft by 3ft - we topped it off with 2 coats of poly urethane.

Looks very nice. Were they too bad to sand and refinish? Course the contrast is quite striking, I like it.

That looks terrific! I love painted wood floors and would really like to paint my kitchen floor so I show my husband every photo I can lay my hands on. So far it hasn't helped wear him down but even Chinese water torture takes a while.
