DIY Chalkboard Robot Town Wall Decals
We moved into our house the week before my son was born. To say that his nursery wasn't a priority is an understatement. My son is now 3 and loves typical 3 year old boy things-- robots, super heros, cars and trucks. I decided to use DC Fix Chalkboard Adhesive and my Cricut Explore to create this amazing robot wall in his bedroom.
The walls were a pale shade of yellow in his room, when we bought our house. There were patches and scratches on the wall. I tried a half hearted attempt to "dress up" his room by adding a piece of handmade wall art and a robot decal a few months ago, but what the room really needed was a fresh coat of paint. I put my husband to work, painting the wall blue, while I started designing the decals.
I created the robot town in Cricut Design Space (File available on my site). It was a bit daunting to create. I had to keep in mind how big the wall was, how large of a cutout my Cricut could cut, and the scale of everything as it related to each other. When I finished creating the file I couldn't wait to cut it out and see what the finished product looked like!
Cutting the DC Fix Chalkboard probably took an hour to do. Then it was time to weed out the chalkboard that wouldn't be stuck to the wall. That took the longest time. I'd suggest doing it in front of the TV. I love the DC Fix Chalkboard because it's made to be easily repositionable. I peeled off the backing, stuck it to the wall and was able to lift it up and restick it multiple times to get the perfect spacing and positioning.

After putting all the pieces on the wall I cured the chalkboard by rubbing chalk all over it and then wiping it away.
The mural ended up measuring 5 feet 7 inches long by 3 feet 7 inches tall. Both of my kids love the new mural so much! My son loves running his hot wheel cars along the road. It provides hours of imaginative play!
