update on my first spring garden

Well, many have asked for updates on the gardening project. Things are growing, but it has not been as productive as I had hoped; though I know it's still pretty early. We did have a financial setback, so I haven't been able to get the crushed granite around the beds yet; that will come eventually. I'm posting the pictures I took yesterday around the various beds. Hopefully I will have more to show in the coming months:)
bok choy, spinich, kale, swiss chard... I'm worried that they will bolt within the next couple of weeks due to heat.
butterfly garden in progress
first attempt at containers...
getting lots of bees, butterflies and birds. I need to clean up the yard a bit though...
strawberries, onions, nasturtums, carrots, lettuce
tomatos, peppers, basil, parsley, some other herbs
trying the 3 sisters: corn, pole beans, and squash (zucinni and yellow summer squash).
I love the hummingbirds
Newest edition is the 250 gal rain barrel.
just had to show off my first vase of fresh cut flowers from my front flower bed
other side of vase:)

Looking very, very good, Angelica. You might be able to "cheat" a bit with your spinach, kale etc with a bit of shade cloth, to help increase production time. You can also replant all those toward fall. You guys in Texas seem to have to be a bit more "adaptive" with this sort of thing, because of your climate. I have a Texas web-buddy MG that uses shade cloth over several parts of her garden, including her tomatoes and gets good production. I would think you could probably use layered netting as traditional shade cloth can be a bit costly. I'm all for gardening on the "cheap". You want shade cover but need to provide some air circulation. You are doing just fine, so stay with it. You flower arrangement is spectacular, so pretty.

Thanks Catherine! Yes, I did get some shade cloth, it is really almost a necessity around here:) I did pull up most of the summer vegetables and started amending the soil to prepare for fall plantings...It's still a little hot for the greens, but I'm going to plant the swiss chard, spinach, and such this morning and put the shade cloth over the bird netting. Thanks again for the encouragement!
