Industrial Lamp Makeover

I found a cool vintage lamp base at a yard sale, and wanted a creative shade. I decided to try something a little bit industrial looking. And you might not have ever heard of the secret ingredient to this makeover - it's something from the home improvement store, called a rod chair. "A what?" you are probably saying. A rod chair!
Here's how it turned out.
Here's the original lamp, with a cute cowboy theme.
This is a rod chair. It holds rebar in place for pouring concrete foundations. They are inexpensive and can be found at any home improvement store or lumberyard.
I connected four rod chairs into a sort of Swiss cross. Looks cool, right?! These are connected with aluminum duct tape, and the ones on the lampshade are wired together with craft wire.
I balanced the Swiss cross contraption on a circle of wire attached with the lamp finial. (The wire circle was from an old dismantled lampshade.) Then I carefully layered four more rod chairs on top. They nest into each other and sit securely without any other connectors.

The rod chairs are a great basis for other projects - I made some really easy wirework picture frames, too. Hope you enjoyed this one!
