DIY Garden Fence Using Picket Fence Panels

The deer were eating our tomatoes! We originally put a border around our garden using 2 x 8's, but we needed something more. Using picket fence panels to make a garden fence not only helped to protect our bounty from deer and such, but also added a pretty (and nostalgic) factor. Purchasing pre-assembled picket fence panels seemed the most cost effective way for us to fence in our vegetable garden area. Here's how we did it:
Finished garden fence ready to be tilled and planted.
When we originally did the garden, we had a simple border made with 2x8's. We wanted to add protection and beauty...
A stack of picket fence panels and some 2x4's were needed for this DIY project.
We started with the corners. Handy Hubby attached the panels to the 2x8 that surrounded the garden. To see more details on getting started, click here.
We created a straight line by lining up string between two corner sections.
We then filled in between the corner sections with panels, screwing them together at an angle.
Since we were working with an uneven ground, Handy Hubby cut down some panels as needed, keeping a fairly straight line on top. Sometimes a shorter width was need to fill in the spaces. See how we did it here.
Support panels were cut from 2x4's
And attached on the inside of the fence where the panels were joined. A gate was also cut in and hinged in place.
We borrowed a paint sprayer and I painted the entire fence in one day.

The white picket fence is looking good but it can't keep your vegetable garden safe from animals. Chain link fence with a long height will be good for this vegetable fence. It can be reusable, easy to install and demands low maintenance cost.
