Goodbye mulch terrace, hello real terrace

When I bought my house three years ago, I couldn't figure out what to do for a seating area in the back yard, so I just dumped a bunch of mulch back there and that was that. But the mulch wore down, and frequently washed away in our Florida downpours. Until yesterday, that is, when a bona fide terrace finally replaced the mulch. I think the large travertine pavers set in a grid of crushed coquina rock have exactly the right vibe for my midcentury house by the beach.
The new terrace. (And check out how much the birds of paradise in the foreground and podocarpus under the windows have grown.)
Before.
Another view of the new.
