Applying a finishing plaster
All plasters should be mixed with cold clean water, dirty water or hot water will alter the setting time, causing the plaster to set to fast Finishing plaster is best mixed with a whisk, to ensure a smooth creamy consistency
When mixing finishing plaster, it is very important to scrape around the edge of the bucket with a bucket trowel to remove any plaster that has not been mixed, and add it to the mix , then continue to whisk
Once the plaster is mixed is then poured onto the spot board , and the bucket and mixing whisk cleaned off ready for the next mix
Using the Trowel the plaster is pulled onto the hawk, the hawk must be held just under the spot boards
the plaster is then turned and dropped in the center of the hawkThis will require a bit of practice, until you have built up coordination between both hand
Right hand people start at the top left hand corner of the wall.Left hand people start to the top right hand corner of the wall
Cover the entire surface , with tow coat of finishing plaster
Once the plaster start to go hard apply water to achive a smooth finish
This will require a bit of practice, until you have built up coordination between both hand

Are you saying that a 2nd coat of plaster with water to smooth will correct a rough wall?

  • I totally agree that plastering is not a easy job .For a beginner, its better to start with a small area then build up to a larger one. The trick with plastering is to clean as you go. Dry plaster is really hard to clean up and will affect your finish, if it dries on your tools.I prefer drywall as it is easier to work with, and it is the most friendly DIY options. Well with plaster it takes more than a little practice to do the job right..
