DIY Drawer Organizer For Baking Supplies

In my ongoing journey to get my kitchen more organized, I decided to tackle my drawers next.

You can see all of my kitchen storage DIY projects HERE.

I have always had trouble figuring out what to do with the drawer where I store my baking supplies (rolling pin, cookie cutters, etc.). They have odd shapes and don't fit within the rows of a standard drawer organizer.

So my drawer started out looking like this...a big jumble of stuff! The drawer was constantly getting jammed because something would stick up too high and prevent it from opening properly.

Then I had an idea! If you can use pegboard hanging on the wall to organize pretty much anything, why couldn't you use it lying down in the drawer as well? This is the sneak peek of the finished project...so much better than before! And really easy to make!

First step is to cut a piece of pegboard that is the same size as the bottom of the drawer.

Then spray paint it white. This step isn't absolutely necessary, but it looks a little nicer in my white drawer.

Screw the pegboard to the bottom of the drawer. If you want to make sure that the pegs stay in, put washers over the screws between the pegboard and the bottom of the drawer to raise it up a little bit.

Next cut some wooden dowels to 3" in length...that's the height that fits well in a standard top drawer of a kitchen cabinet. You could make them longer if your drawer is taller. And if you're luckier than I was, you might be able to find some that are already the right length...then you don't need to do the cutting part.

Arrange your baking supplies in the drawer and put pegs in the holdes to hold them in place. You can stack similarly shaped items like cookie cutters which lets you get more in. I tried to group them by holiday (eg. all of the Christmas ones together, all of the Halloween ones together) so that I wouldn't have to hunt through the stacks to find what I was looking for. For the container at the back where I store candles and smaller items, I used 4 pegs, one at each corner and that prevents it from moving around in the drawer.

I love the idea, and the fact that you could Really move the pegs around if you need it to, I would just buy the already white pegboard instead of having to paint it as that would save a step and a cost of paint as pretty sure they cost close to the same at Home Depot or other type stores, but will plan on using this idea in the future ,And I think the washer idea is great too ,as you would need to clean under neath for crumbs and such, so I would leave it where it could be lefted out easily but I may be gluing two of the pegs on the corners so they could be used to easily raise up the pegboard to clean under. wonderful idea thanks for sharing

Great idea! Instead of screwing it into the drawer, you can use the two way Velcro on all 4 sides to keep it in place. This way, you can always remove it completely without damage to the drawer.
