With Old Plates and Saucers...

Marcela Pena

We all have old plates, saucers, trays, with cracks or chips... But they can always be useful! Look at what I did with them... I will start with the most challenging sample, but then you will see simpler ones...
This tray was no longer used for its chips in the edges. But there is always a second chance!
I started by choosing nice napkins with flowers for decoupage. Cut and glued them with a special material I found at the craft store: a bakeable medium, originally used to paint on ceramics and porcelain. In this case I applied medium on the tray, then pressed napkin flowers on and gave another coat of medium.
I painted the word with acrylics mixed with the same medium.
and "baked" for a few minutes. This makes a sort of crystal cover on decoupage.
I wanted a chalkboard in the centre of the tray. So I covered edges and painted with blackboard paint.
And this is what it looks like now, ready to be hanged in the kitchen!

The next pictures show easier projects, because I used saucers which already had a design, so I only painted the centre with blackboard paint.
and this is another sample with napkin decoupage
Look at all of them together! I had fun doing this!

These are beautiful. Is that medium like Gel medium here? Or like mod podge? I just love them. Great job.
