Wallace Gardens
by Wallace Gardens
I've long been fascinated with plant foliage, and the remarkable symmetry of Mother Nature - you too?! I love collecting plants for "theme gardens" and so, naturally, heart-shaped plants is one of my favorites. Here are a few ideas to get you started on your own Heart-Shaped Theme Garden.
I'm sure you have many other favorites, like Dicentra (Bleeding Heart). Share some of your ideas with us!
My favorite Coleus is called 'Trailing Red' - it's like having strands of valentines hanging from your container gardens.
Isn't the color of this Begonia leaf remarkable?
I have three favorite Sweet Potato Vines. This one is 'Black Heart' ~ another one for the Black Plant List!
The Redbud tree 'Purple Pansy' glows in the sunlight like stained glass.
Here's a Climbing Hydrangea. Beautiful heart-shaped leaves.
The stunning 'Sweet Georgia Red' Sweet Potato Vine.
Caladiums have such big hearts.
This Begoinia has enormous leaves and will perennialize here in Zone 7B, Georgia.
Cyclamen - have you ever noticed their extraordinary leaves?
Use Caladiums as wonderful accents in summer shade gardens.
Hostas - there are so many to choose from, and most of them have beautiful heart-shaped leaves.
Big black hears on this Elephant Ear. (I have a fondness for black plants, but that's another theme garden for another day.)
A lovely perennial: Epimedium, with its little orchid-like flowers in February.
Perhaps my favorite Redbud tree 'Rising Sun.'
Great big hosta heart.
The lovely 'Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Red' Sweet Potato Vine.
Another little heart-shaped Coleus.
