Most gardeners know that you can get great soil if you have a compost pile. But some municipalities don't allow composting and some yards are not large enough.
This is where trench composting comes into play. It is an easy to use technique that puts nutrients right where they can do the most use - right at the root of your plants!

There are a few kitchen scraps that I love to use in trench composting.
Egg shells add calcium to the soil, and are also a great deterrent to snails if you put them on top of the soil.
Coffee grounds are great to use near acid loving plants like blueberries, azaleas and hydrangeas. See more tips for trench composting on my blog.
