We have a very small patio area at the moment that is surrounded by an ugly old wood stockade fence. Never sat outside because it was depressing. This year we decided to do something about it.
First year tried to plant some flowers
Started with a blank canvas of an ugly old stockade fence that I saw every time I looked out my kitchen sliding door.
Before project, just hanging baskets
Just a small patch of grass, a raised garden bed and small flower garden.
Before a small veggie garden and grass
We had some some left over Lattice and I decided I wanted to create a vertical herb garden by hanging the lattice on the fence. Next we hung some potted herbs on the lattice. Thyme, Catnip, Rosemary, Sage, Mint, Dill and Green Onion.
Lattice and potted herbs
Added bamboo fencing to cover the ugly stockade fence. Planted my Green beans, Basil, Parsley next to my old Oregano plant in the raised garden bed. Replaced small grass patch with patio bricks.
Green beans, Oregano Parsley & Basil
Hung some fun decorations on the bamboo. We decided to give the patio a Nautical feel to it.
Sailboat, Lobster & Crab bought online.
Tiki Bar, Sun/Moon and frogs bought locally.
Love my little Frogs
Hung up some bamboo bird nests transformed into flower pots. Added a beach scene.
Must have a wind chime
Placed our Bistro set on the brick patios. Finished project, now I can look out my kitchen door and feel proud of the view.

How do you get the bamboo to stand erect?

Wow, what a great idea — has such a whimsical yet relaxing feel. Had my doubts when you began with lattice, which can really be “ughlee”

but a little as accent looked great!
