IKEA Rolling Cart Transformation

IKEA is wonderful for functional pieces - but some lack personality. Check out this project....and tell me what you think! :-)
"After" picture...feeling right "at home"....
This is the sample I created to pop the pottery scattered throughout kitchen.
Taped off the top - I really like the stainless steel top on this piece and the rack below - POTENTIAL!! :-)
A simple IKEA cart begging for some personality :-)
Starting my undertone colors....
Close up of glazes...three colors including some antique gold - rubbing back to the dark brown undertone...& "distressing"...
A little work with my hammer and a chisel :-)
A little more on the rack...:-)

  • @Tina C Thanks, Tina! It used to give me "stress" to "distress" but now I enjoy it. Thanks for the nice comment!

I have a table that just sits against the wall in my kitchen. The sides fold down to maximize space, which is why I love it; and great for events when everyone cannot sit at dining room table! (The set came with the 2 chairs and a matching bench (the bench has disappeared in the last few years.) 😞😕

I have had many thoughts of using it as an island, but had no idea where to begin. Your DIY has sparked my imagination! And thinking further, I will also need to add wheels to the bottom legs. THANK YOU for your brilliant idea!😍

Do you have any suggestions on cleaning the metal legs? This set is over 40 yrs old!!!
