How To Paint a Front Door

by Megan Aubrey
I love the idea of a bright, vibrant, and inviting front door. I thought that the red would go perfectly with our classic ranch home. Here is my step-by-step guide on how to paint a door for a flawless finish.
Sand and degloss your door.
Find out if the prior paint is oil or latex. Prime the door with the appropriate primer.
Primer coat one.
Primer coat two.
Pick your color. Mine by Bright Red by Valspar.
First, cut in.
Then, paint horizontal areas.
Then paint the vertical areas.
Then paint the inside panels.
Do plenty of coats.
I used three coats.
Our beautiful front door now pops!
Such a classic and vibrant showstopper for the front of our house!

I LOVE the look of this! I'm about to paint my front door, but red has never been one of my favourite colours (mostly because I can't wear it well, LOL). I have the same colour brick as you, and was thinking maybe a burnt orange (because I'm keeping my trim a creamy colour). I'm tempted now to take another look at the reds section of the paint aisle though! Your door looks awesome!

@Rachael Holmes I feel the same way about red! As a red head I stay away from red in my wardrobe but I love it on my door! If you go red I recommend getting a lot of sample cards and putting them next to your brick. Certain reds read very different next to brick. Good luck!
