Refurbished Single Seat Garden Benches

I bought these two very rusty shabby retro 1950's garden seats on ebay. The frames were rusty and the wooden slats needed replacing as the wood was split and rotting. The bolts would not undo as they were so rusted, so I had to use bolt cutters and a hammer to get the old broken slats off. The slats were replaced with Merbau timber cut to size by the hardware store, new nuts and bolts and the frames were treated with rust proof and painted using a can of red spray paint. Merbau has lots of natural oil and is a great material for outdoor chairs. Once they have weathered and all the tannins have leached out of the wood, the wood should fade a little to grey. Once that happens, I might paint them in tri-colour - red/yellow/green slats but I quite like them as they are.
