Trough Party Table

There are many versions of the party trough table on the internet, and I really loved the idea. I wanted to try making one out of mostly recycled materials. And still make it look good.

I was given an old table, there was a lot of damage to it but as long as I picked it up it was free. So I disguised all the damage by distressing the top buy hitting it with a drill chuck which gave it a great look and hid all the damage. I routered out the grooves on the top to make it look a bit fancy and once it was all sanded down and stained it looked great.

I had an issue with my camera and lost all my step by step pictures, but it is simple enough to follow what I did from the pictures. I made the Legs by gluing 2 lengths of timber together to make them chunky and give it some weight. And yes, if you spotted the error with the legs I attached them wrong, which I did fix up.

I cut the centre section out, which would become my cooler troughs. I did use planters which I saw used on other sites. But felt they ruined the look of my table in the end. I have since had a trough made for the next one that I make to give it a more proffessional look. I added a 1cm hole in the bottom of the trough and used a rubber bung which is removed when you want to drain out the water from the melted ice. Just pop a bucket under the hole and drain out the water.

I did have to buy the long lengths of timber for the benches, but just bought the cheapest I could find. I made the fame and just added all the cross slats which I used a nail gun to attach. Once all the cross slats were on, I used a circular saw to cut them all to the same length. They were distressed in the same way as the table so it all matched. Added a few large bolts more for decoration.
Cooler trough table
I sanded all the surfaces to take all the rough edges that distressing it caused, stained it using cedar stain and gave it 2 coats of varnish.
Trough Party Table
This table is a great addition to any outdoor living space, all you need is the friends and the alcohol and you are set.
