Faux Succulent Wreath

We love to craft with succulents, but real ones need a lot of care and fake ones from the craft store can be expensive! Then we noticed how much pine cones look like succulents! Plus they are free!
We started by walking the neighborhood collecting all shapes and sizes of pine cones.
In addition to the regular looking ones, we found tiny ones from Redwood Trees and rose shaped pine cones from a Deodor Cedar. If you can't find enough in your area, you can buy bags of pine cones at craft stores.
Some of the pine cones were really big, but we just cut those in half. We tried a hand saw, but found our rose-pruning bypass loppers were much easier. We ended up using both the tops and the bottoms of the pine cones. Both ends look like succulents!
We painted the pine cones green, turquoise, and burgundy. Our friends liked the wreath so much, we had a wreath making party and made green and purple faux succulent wreaths. You can see them here. They're so pretty!
Once we had all the pine cones painted, we glued them to a grapevine wreath and finished the sides with moss. We think it turned out really cool! You can see the whole list of materials we used, plus the step-by-step instructions, here.
Wouldn't it be fun to make faux succulents and use them in a bird cage or in the back of a toy truck? We'll have to try that next.
