How I Painted My Brick House!

Do you live in an outdated, tired, and dare I say, UGLY brick house? So did I!! We bought this ranch style brick house a couple of years ago, and I've been working on making it prettier ever since. Check it out!
I started this project first by power washing the entire facade. This is a really important step! The decades of mold and dirt have to be washed off before you ever open a gallon of paint!
After power washing the entire house, we assembled the scaffolding and I got to work! Our fascia, soffit and siding were all aluminum therefore it took paint like a champ.
Beginning at the top and working your way down is the way to go. I paced myself because I knew it was going to be a marathon and not a sprint to the finish line!
I chose to roll the brick instead of using my sprayer. Why, you ask? Because rolling the paint on helps to really push the paint into all of the voids, nooks and crannies of the brick's porous surface. This helps to really seal the brick. Spraying brick, while it is much, much faster and less labor intensive, allows the paint to more or less "sit" on the surface therefore not sealing it against rain and weather as well as rolled paint. This is just my take on this subject. You could talk to a dozen painters and they would probably tell you the opposite of what I did:) To each his own!
I used Loxon Masonry Primer from Sherwin Williams for my first coat. It was looking better already!
I slowly worked my way around the house
Once I had the soffit, siding, fascia, gutters and downspouts painted and the brick primed I started rolling on the top coat of paint. For this I used Sherwin Williams Resilience Exterior Satin mixed in Neutral Ground at 50%. It was just the perfect off-white. Not too gray and not too yellow.

Yes it does look tropical. Your neighbors must be so jealous. I liked the house before but this really is drastic but for the better, your hard work paid off must have really increased your homes value.
