Grab some scrap wood, Unicorn Spit and get to it!
Since I have tons of scrap wood that normally ends up in our fall bonfires, I decided to find some use for some of it.
After cutting all my pieces using end grain from 2 x 4's and a saw stop (check the link for details on setting a stop) I sanded each piece.
Then with some careful labeling and a little time laying out my pattern, I started staining with Unicorn SPiT. Since SPiT is such a versatile medium, it can be diluted as a stain making the job of staining end grain pieces much easier.
I chose several different colors from the Unicorn SPiT collection and created a few of my own by mixing.
After trimming the sides flush, framing out the edges I mixed up my epoxy and started pouring.
Epoxy needs to be poured in layers. Starting with your first thin layer to seal off the surface. This keeps your bubbles and leaks to a minimum.
Once the epoxy is fully cured, add your handles.
You can see the detailed steps, including how to set up a saw stop and pouring epoxy on the blog link.
